5 Movies About The Hotel Industry That You Will Love

The Hotel industry carries a lot of interesting and unique story. Apart from the structural teachings and understanding of the hospitality industry, the hotel business always seem to be set apart from the usual norm. It is an understanding of service and refined excellence in accomodating guests needs. You could tell a lot more stories from a butler or a bellhop who met so many different characters working the front lobby than a housekeeping staffs who have taken a vow of silence of whatever they found in the room as means to protect guests identities and privacies. No my friend, the hotel industry is not just ‘meet and greet’, it is so much more than that, and it took years to master and passionate dedication of serving and bringing out the best quality of each hotel’s brand.

Whether or not you work in the hotel industry, these 5 movies that centers around the operation of a hotel will surely be an interesting watch for you. Mind you, we’ve been crazy about some titles here, as it is just as quirky, unique and interesting as the whole hotel industry itself.

FOUR ROOMS (1995)
Director(s) : Quentin Tarantino, Alison Anders, Robert Rodriguez and Alexander Rockwell

The story is divided into four parts of uniquely entertaining fun as each director brings their own touch to each segment. Centered around a one-night shift of Ted the Bellhop of the Mon Signor Hotel. Loosely based on Roald Dahl’s short-fiction writing ‘Man From The South’, the movie is a hillarious and satirical look on the modern society through the eyes of a bellhop.

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (2014)
Director : Wes Anderson

The fictional story of the Grand Budapest Hotel directed by hipsters favourite Wes Anderson who is an exceptional auteur that delivers only the most passionate projects to date. The film is hilariously funny and also satirical, carries an emotional depth of sense loyalty and service that reminds us a lot about looking behind the scene of the people who works for the hotel industry.

HOTEL RWANDA (2004)

Director : Terry George

Set against the Rwandan genocide of 1994, the film tells the story of a luxurious hotel manager that is stationed during the most troubled times of country’s history to help rescue foreigners and locals who can’t escape the country to fled the horrendous acts of mass controlled killings by the Hutu against the Tutsi.

LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003)

Director : Sofia Coppola

Vividly depositing viewers in the chaotic surrealism of Tokyo, the film is not only a great hotel movie, but also a great travel movie. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanssson portrays two-characters in the middle of their aging life and career, finding meanings in everything possible. A poignant and breath-taking look at humanism.

THE SHINNING (1980)

Director : Stanley Kubrick

From the mind of acclaimed horror writer Stephen King comes this thrillingly enjoyable horror classic that is considered more to be a cult-movie than a horror movie. The film tells the story of a winter hotel-keeper and his family who succumbed to the mind-numbing spirit chilling weather of winter in America’s north.
