Best School for Special Needs Education: Saraswati Learning Center

Finding the right school for your loved one is never a simple matter. Even more challenging is to find the right education provider for children who have physical, emotional or learning differences—or special needs children— that may struggle in traditional academic settings. Some find it hard to communicate both in writing or orally, others have difficulty staying focused, and some children struggle to get along with their friends.  In these cases, parents may find it beneficial to send their children to schools specifically designed to address the needs of children with special needs.

For Reshma Bhojwani, founder and owner of Saraswati Learning Center, a school for children with special learning requirements, caring for her 7 year old down-syndrome has obviously been challenging but in the same time, a rewarding experience. “I was able to strive and become a better mother. It has made me who I am today.” Most importantly, Reshma felt she has been able to get the best out of her daughter. “So I thought to myself, if I can help her, why I can’t help other children?” From here, the Saraswati Learning Center was established, with a vision to get the best out of children with all abilities, through an out of the box system that is personalized to each kid.

 saraswati learning center

Saraswati Learning Center’s aim is to create the future of tomorrow’s children, by believing each and every individual’s hidden skills, with a vision and mission to extract the best out of the best in each of them to enhance and grow and shine as part of the community. The school accepts all children with Autism, ADHD, ADD, Global Development Delay, Speech Delay, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and other related syndromes.

Individualized Timetable Plan

When a child comes in to Saraswati Learning Center, he or she will go through a psychological assessment. From there, the child’s needs and the type and frequency of therapy services needed, can be identified.  It can also be decided whether the children able to enter the educational system, and what additional skills the child needs.  From there, an Individualized Educational Plan can be created.

What makes Saraswati Learning Center particularly unique is the flexible and self-made timetable that is personalized to each child; created with full awareness of what does the parent want, and most importantly, what the child needs and wants, which makes it the only place in Jakarta to offer such approach.

In addition to the basic education (math, science, etc.) children can also take part in the additional activities such as dance, drama, arts and crafts, cooking, IT, music, available throughout the whole week. These additional classes, as well as tutoring classes, are not limited to special needs children only, and can be enrolled by any children.

To support its out of the box schooling method, Saraswati Learning Center has developed a special Montessori-inspired curriculum, made for children 3 years old upwards, and has been optimized for special needs children.  “We want the child to be happy, the parents happy, so the school becomes a fun place to be. “ Reshma added.

saraswati learning center2

Taking care of a special needs child needs a whole lot of love, compassion, affection, and for the parent/teacher to believe in them, that they can do it and they will do it. In Saraswati Learning Center, the parents can rest assured that this is taken care of and that the child receive utmost care in their activities; in addition to the one on one classes, all classes has a maximum of 1: 3 teacher to child ratio, with 9 or fewer students each class and supported with specialized facilities (pool, physical activities equipment, etc.).

Family Leisure Destinations in Bandung

When we mention family destinations in Bandung, don’t be surprised if you’ll find that most of them are located in Lembang. A lush area north of Bandung, Lembang is well known for its cool climate and green surrounding. In the last few years, Lembang has seen creative tourist destination that’s very enjoyable year round and perfect for a family getaway.

One of the hottest and most talked about is the Farmhouse Lembang,  where you can find a beautiful garden full with flowers, European architecture shops, and most importantly, the instagram-famous ‘hobbit’ house. In here, you can also enjoy barbecued food, while your kids play with  birds, iguana, sheep, rabbits and horses at the farm area. Another favourite is also the Dusun Bambu resort area, with an array of restaurants at the Pasar Katulistiwa food court and its expansive  outdoor play area.

We also love the Floating Market at the  Situ Umar lake where you can enjoy not only the beautiful view, but even dine on the boat! This lake used to be restricted for fishing only, but over time it has grown into a fun floating market that has attracted visitors from all over the country, and even from the abroad.

For those that would like some equestrian action, De’Ranch is a must try. Located in Maribaya near Lembang traditional market, De’Ranch provides an excitement of riding and interacting with horses, cowboy style.  Last but not least, for a more relaxing time, the Maribaya Natural Hot Spring Resort is a must-visit, where not only you can enjoy the natural spring and the surrounding scenery but also some fun activities for the kids.

To be in close proximity to all these destinations, the Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers is your best bet. Located in Jl. Ir. H Juanda, around Dago Atas area, the hotel is under 30 minutes away from Lembang and offers a great resort-style acommodation for your family. UNICEF and Indonesian Musicians Collaborate in ‘Give Back’ Campaign

Music producer Stephen Laurence Harvey and spouse of Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia Madam Noor Traavik donates song and video “Give Back Indonesia”, features leading artists and public figures who, through this song, aim to motivate viewers to give back and contribute in various ways to help improve the lives of children in Indonesia.

unicef_giveback

“This generous gesture shows that everyone can contribute to improve the lives of children and to provide them with a fair chance to grow up healthy and protected,” said UNICEF Indonesia Representative Gunilla Olsson.

The video, produced by Stephen Laurence Harvey, was donated to Ibu Noor Traavik, the spouse of Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia and long-time friend of UNICEF.

“As Indonesia becomes stronger and more prominent in the world, Indonesians want to help and show solidarity. A few Pioneers among Indonesian philanthropists and celebrities are already engaged, and I think more and more people will join in showing solidarity with those who suffer,” says Ibu Traavik. “We first played the song during the “Voices of Children” concert in 2015 and everyone loved it. I have worked with UNICEF before to fundraise for children in crisis and conflict areas and that’s why I’m choosing UNICEF to hand over the video to now.”

The producer and co-writer of the song GIVE BACK, Stephen Laurence Harvey, said the idea to create the music video came after he was asked to write a song by his close friend Jonathan Liu, which would inspire people to help children.

The collaboration resonates with UNICEF’s belief that to deliver the best results for children we all need to work closely together and join efforts with many stakeholders, including the private sector because children are everybody’s business. The private sector plays an important role in helping improve the quality of children’s lives.

Partnerships between businesses and UNICEF offer mutual benefits, combining the proven value of Corporate Social Responsibility, raising the profile of the company while enhancing UNICEF’s work on behalf of the most vulnerable children in the country. “We engage with the private sector to benefit from their technical know-how and entrepreneurship to test innovative ways of improving services for the most vulnerable mothers and children, as well as to raise much needed funds to support our work,” says Ibu Gunilla.

The video recording will be used by UNICEF to enhance fundraising efforts and includes a link to the UNICEF donation page to encourage people, businesses and private sector, to Give Back to Indonesian children.
