Run To Give 2017 Raises Funds for Food Rescue Foundation

Hotels under Marriott International and Starwood Hotels just finished its a charity run last week on 24 September 2017 to raise funds for Yayasan Emanuel, a food rescue foundation. Run To Give 2017 succeeds in pooling in a total of more than 2000 runners who contributes IDR 100,000 each.

RTG 2017 - Yayasan EmmanuelRunners follow the route starting from Le Meridien, turning in Bundaran HI and Semanggi and eventually ending up in Le Meridien again, completing a 5 km run. The first 400 runners to cross the finish line receive gold medals to appreciate their efforts. Each runner is also given a T-shirt, running number, and drink.

run to give 2The four and five star hotels contribute by preparing foods to be distributed to malnourished communities. The safety and quality of the foods is guaranteed to be excellent to make sure the community’s needs are satisfied. All supplies are provided free of charge and the distribution prioritizes children, mothers, and elderly. Yayasan Emmanuel also provides education to communities where the income is below poverty line of IDR 10,000.

Literature and Ideas Festival by Salihara

Literature and Ideas Festival (LIFEs) by Slihara is back with a new theme “Membacara Amerika Latin: VIVA! REBORN!”. It’s time to put emphasis on discussing ideas and thought.

Latin America has been chosen for its multitude of important ideas sucah as magic-realism literary genre, traditional and socialist political movement, libertaion theology, dependency thelogy, etc. Latin America is always loud and bold!

LIFEs Salihara poster“Latin American can also be compared to Indonesia. With regards to the history of colonoalism, military regimes and democracy, environmental issues, and the interaction between Abrahamic faith and local beliefs,” explained LIFEs director and literary curator, Ayu Utami.

For three weeks, a variety of discussion forums will talk about these issues and more. Diskusi Meja Bundar is one of the program which connects diverse cultural actors with a focus on Latin America cultural discourse. There will be discussions on literature, ideas, and thoughts.

dance club saliharaIn addition to sumptuous dinners, music concerts and performing arts theater, Pentas Sastra at LIFEs brings Indonesian authors together with their Latin colleagues onto one of the stage during Pentas Malam: Sajian dari Selatan. Some of the most talked about writers in Indonesia today will present, such as Ziggy and Feby Indriani. From Latin America, there will be Carmen Boullosa and Hector Abad Faciolince.

Visitors are invited to take part in LIFEs workshop programs. For instance, What’s in a Name? will help participants develop narrations from a name, with mentor Sergio Chejfec, a writer from Argentina. Everyone can also enjoy the four-day book bazaar, a series of Latin American film screenings, and a number of collaborative performance and art exhibitions.

Writing Competition SaliharaLIFEs 2017 will run from 7 to 28 October 2017 at Komunitas Salihara, with the support of the Embassies of Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Spain, Cuba, and Switzerland in Indonesia.
