Profile of The Month: KLM Indonesia’s Country Manager Wouter Alders

As one of the world’s oldest and most respected airline, KLM has been part of Indonesia since Jakarta was called Batavia, to which KLM took their first intercontinental flight in October 1st, 1924. Today, the blue livery KLM planes fliy to more than 145 destinations all over the world, including 14 cities in Indonesia. We did a Q&S with the airline’s Indonesia Country Manager, Wouter Alders, for a further insight on KLM’s presence in the country.

What is KLM’s plan for the region in the future?

Asia Pacific has been an important market for KLM. In fact, we have a vast network between Europe and South East Asia in particular.

On departure from the Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol hubs, Air France-KLM offers over 57 weekly flights to 8 destinations in South-East Asia: Bangkok, Denpasar (Bali), Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Singapore, and many more via our codeshare partners.

Today, under the Air France KLM group, we have a presence in more than 328 destinations in 118 countries.

Anticipating that the region will become the largest travel market by 2020, Asia Pacific will continue to be a key focus area for us and we look at ways to become more accessible to travelers in the region.

How does Indonesia rank up for KLM in terms of consumer behavior, and how do you see Indonesia’s market, and what program and features can your Indonesian consumers expect from KLM in the coming months and year? 

In addition to evolving our network, KLM has also made leaps in improving the travel experience for customers, even before take off. In recent months, we became the world’s first airline to offer customer flight information and 24/7 customer service via Facebook Messenger, Twitter, WeChat, and Whatsapp.

Can you tell us about the cooperation with Air France and how it will impact the Indonesian market? 

Air France and KLM merged to form the Air France KLM Group. As a result of the merger, we were able to adopt a dual-hub strategy, via Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, and leverage the extended to provide travelers with added routes for better convenience.

How many destinations from Indonesia does KLM serve now, and is the company looking to expand more? 

In Indonesia, travelers now have more options to connect to over 200 destinations in Europe with daily flights:

• From Jakarta and Denpasar we have a daily flight to Amsterdam on KLM
• From Jakarta to Paris on Air France

Our network is still expanding rapidly; by the end of this year, we have added and additional 27 destinations to the network including Porto, Malaga, Minneapolis and Mauritius.

Fairmont Jakarta held its very first Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on 5 December 2017, showcasing the first 8-meter BVLGARI Christmas Tree in Indonesia that will be displayed at the Hotel’s Main Lobby until 5 January 2018.

The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony also marks the official beginning of the festive season at Fairmont Jakarta. During the evening, the Hotel also launched its special afternoon tea for the festive season, in collaboration with celebrity chef Farah Quinn, through a special food parade by Fairmont Jakarta team.
