Plans for Ten-fold Increase in Parking Fee & Jakarta to Have Its Major Art Museum

Dear Jakartans!

The Jakarta Provincial Government has stated their plan to charge up to Rp. 50,000 per hour for off the street parking in the effort to discourage Jakartans from driving their cars and to opt for public transport. The Jakarta’s Transportation Agency, however, assured that this scheme would only be implemented after the city’s public transport gets to a sustainable level, which is hoped to be attained with the implementation of LRT and MRT. What do you think of this future plan by the Jakarta Government? Leave your comments below.

The first museum in Indonesia dedicated to international modern and contemporary art is scheduled to open in early 2017 in West Jakarta, New York Timesreports. The private institution will be called the Museum MACAN, for Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara. It is being built and financed by the Indonesian businessman and collector Haryanto Adikoesoemo and will be directed by Thomas J. Berghuis, the former curator of Chinese art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. The 43,000-square-foot museum, will occupy one floor of a building in a larger development project that will include offices, apartments, a hotel and a retail area.

Get Your Dose of Hospital-themed Dining in Hospitalis Jakarta

The idea of offering unusual or downright bizarre restaurant first started in Japan and it soon quickly grabbed the attention and sparked trends all over the world. To these places, people don’t really go for the food. You go here because they offer a unique blend of dining and outrageous atmosphere to create a one of a kind experience.

Some of the most interesting include the prison-themed restaurants, where people get locked in real prison cells when they dine; or the Ninja themed place where the waiters are all fully dressed like real ninjas, or the vampire-themed and even hospital themed. To try one, you actually don’t need to go far all the way to Japan.

hospitalis_jakarta1

In an assuming little spot in Jalan Ahmad Dahlan, South Jakarta, IV drip poles rolling past, stainless steel trays, pyrex glassware and syringe brought to you by ‘nurses’ (albeit with bright red wigs!) and ‘doctors’ in full lab coats; no we’re not in a real hospital, but actually in Hospitalis Restaurant, Jakarta.

Andhika Hasan, the owner of the restauran claimed that that he’s always wanted to create a one of a kind restaurant business and the idea of opening a hospital themed restaurant did come to him after visiting Japan. “I am a person that always disliked going to hospitals; its smell, surrounding, everything about it. So I had the idea to create a ‘hospital’ where you can have fun and enjoy yourself”, he added.

The restaurant is adorned with hospital-related decorations and paraphernalia; the dining table and its seating are repurposed hospital beds and even wheelchairs, all dominated in red and white, lending a playful atmosphere, wrapped in thick hospital ambiance.

hospitalis_jakarta2 hospitalis_jakarta3

The food offered are mainly popular Jakarta café snacks and some international lunch and dinner items, but what’s most interesting is its crazy food names borrowing random terms of medical conditions, procedures and sometimes even body parts names! From Beef Gingivitis, Pediatric Rice, Spondylitis Pasta, Protein-Calorie Malnutrition, Chicken Appendix Ramen, to Brain Transplant Pannacotta, you’ll definitely raise your eyebrows just browsing through the menu.

To try what it’s all about, we ordered some of what said to be their favourite menu items: the Squid Bronchitis, deep fried calamari with chili sauce; the Amnesia Ramen, japan-inspired soyu ramen with cuts of chicken meat; and the Intestinal Chasiu lunch package. All these food items are eccentrically served in medical facilities grade stainless steel and my ramen even came with a small bottle filled with crushed bird’s eye chilies for an extra kick.

hospitalis_jakarta7

hospitalis_jakarta8

The drinks and desserts options are also just as outrageously named and presented. The Virgin Mexican Blood served in a real IV bag and hose (replaced after each order) is very popular, as the case with the insane-looking fruity eye mutilation, complete with real-looking eyeball on a spoon, and also the Organs Surgery Parfait for dessert. For the alcoholic beverage, we tried the Coughing Removal with gilbeys vodka, triple sec, and sprinkled with bubblegum powder as a fanciful gimmick.

hospitalis_jakarta4 hospitalis_jakarta5 hospitalis_jakarta6

 Andhika did tell me that despite its selection of food and drinks, Hospitalis somehow gained popularity among the after-dark crowd looking for a place to unwind and grab some drinks in the Radio Dalam area, hence you should check out their all week promo on bar drinks. Come here Monday to Friday for all you can drink cocktail for Rp. 50,000 from 3 pm onwards or catch the Buy 2 get 1 Bintang beer promo, Monday-Wednesday, 7 pm onwards. To get the party started, why not take advantage of their ‘immunisation’ promo of 550,000 whole bottle of liquor (plus 2 mixers) or the ‘I.C.U’ Promo that gets you 2 bottles of popular

Why You Should Visit Anantara Maldives at Least Once in Your Life

The Maldives is a tropical nation in the Indian Ocean composed of 26 coral atolls, which are made up of hundreds of islands. Its isolation and dreamlike surrounding makes this tropical nation as somewhat a luxurious enigma to the rest of the world. We know it only from movie scenes, holiday pictures of celebrities, and possibly your desktop screen savers.

"VFMLID=61834052"

For once in your life, why not truly live in the moment and act out and fulfil my lifelong dream and experience this paradise on earth yourself. With sun shining throughout the year, spectacular underwater beauty and waves like nowhere else, Maldives makes the perfect getaway, both for families and also couples.

After a quick check in the mighty world wide web, I can guarantee your search for the best in Maldives will inevitably narrow down to one name, Anantara, that has three resorts in the three connected islands that share a clear turquoise lagoon; Anantara Dhigu, Anantara Veli, and Anantara Kihavah Maldives. To each their own, these accommodations offer unprecedented luxury, privacy and spotless service that exceed the superlatives.

anantara_maldives_overwater_villa

Anantara Dhigu’s over-water villas

anantara_maldives_overwatervilla2

My dream was recently made into reality as I finally stepped in one of the three: Anantara Dhigu. Located in an evocative island of Dhigufinolhu, the tranquil resort feels like home away from home; far from the maddening crowd, you can only hear the gentle waves and the faint breeze. Every morning I woke up to the soothing views of the endless deep blue Indian Ocean. It is impossible to resist taking a morning plunge in the gentle waters of a turquoise lagoon, directly from the over water villa.

 It is definitely easy to get carried away with Anantara’s stylishly designed villas that make you want to spend your whole holiday in your room.  But contrary to popular belief, there are actually tons to do in the area. All guests staying in one of the 110 beach villas and over water suites have access to the beaches surrounding the island. Kayak to Guli Fushi island at the edge of the lagoon for snorkelling. Take advantage of the five-star facilities provided for the guests; play tennis, hit the gym and or swim in the infinity edge pool just for the sake of it.

"VFMLID=61834100"

After a long day at the beach, simply unwind at Anantara Spa with a range of the resort’s renowned signature treatments and later dine in one of 8 restaurants in the facility, from seafood, grills, thai to Japanese. You’re wrong if you think being in a secluded island cuts you off from great dining.

In the end of every Maldives vacation, you will be faced with a harsh realization that you do need to leave this paradise at some point. A heaven on earth, a place surrounded with the warmth of the sun and the smile of its people, Anantara Maldives is definitely a place that you need to stay in, at least once in your lifetime!

For more information, visit dhigu-maldives.anantara.com  or contact reservations.maldives@anantara.com.
