Juice Detox: A Reset Button for Your Body

Juicing, or juice detoxing, has lately been the craze. Celebrities from Beyonce, Anne Hathaway, to Gwyneth Paltrow swears by it and incorporate some kind of juicing  not just into their daily lives, but also to their lifestyle. Salma Hayek, who has been doing it for over 15 years, said that “cleansing is like my meditation. It makes me stop, focus, and think about what I’m putting into my body. I’m making a commitment to my health and the reset button.” Granted, you shouldn’t just do anything that celebrities do, no matter how good they look in their age. But really, what’s it all about?

Why juice detoxing?

No matter how healthy we try to be, it’s hard to avoid coffee, processed food and polluted air. When done right, detoxification, or cleansing, diets aim to rid your body of disease-causing “toxins”, jump-start a wholesome habit and regain balance for your body by limiting the types and amounts of food you can eat, and in the case of juice detox, replacing it with carefully planned juice combinations.

Although it does help, there is also a common misconception that juice detox is a quick weight-loss program. “We should see it more as one of a way to overhaul a person’s insides, ridding them of toxic overload, regaining balance after a period of unhealthful eating, for example fried food and lots of sugar.” Andeline from Urban Remedy Indonesia, which provides a premium juice detox service, explained.

How to do it?

Most juice detox program offers 1, 3 to 5 days of strict vegetable/fruit juice only diet, although 3 is said to be the most ideal and also easier to do. Each day, you will be given up to 6 bottles of juice to be consumed throughout the day, and are only allowed to drink water in addition to the juices. For a maximum result, this detox should be done at least once a week.

Most juice plans are also a carefully planned combination of certain types of fruit vegetables and fruit to get your metabolism run effectively throughout the day. “For example, what your body needs in the morning is totally different than what it needs in the middle of the day. That’s why our products are created by nutritionists to be effective and nutritionally balanced.” Andeline explained.

How you process your juice, is extremely essential; regular juicing with your home blender might not cut it as it utilizes a motor blade that releases heat, which in turn can oxidize the nutrients in the fruit and vegetable you’re processing, and rendering a much less nutritious juice. The best way to extract nutrients from raw fruit and vegetable is by cold press juicing; which extract juice by first crushing and then pressing fruit and vegetables. This way, the nutrients are more intact and you get the highest yield of juice.

The results?

“Juice detox is not a medicine; so there’s no certain ‘cure’, but it is more like a jumpstart for your body. Most people that have tried our juice cleanse admit that their body feels lighter and sleep better.” Andeline said. One thing for sure, detox or no detox, cold press juicing is definitely one quick and delicious way of consuming lots of fruits and vegetable, all at one sitting.

The best part is, not only that these juices are good for you, they taste great too! Urban Remedy Indonesia, for example, gives three different types of package to try; regular (starts from Rp. 550,000/day) classic (starts from 650,000/day) , and signature (750,000/day), with a difference only in quality of ingredients used, while the amount of liquid consumed, will be the same. The signature package, for example, uses Kale and imported strawberries in the mix.

But if you are not ready to commit to one yet, you can always try the regular juice delivery daily weekly, to monthly juice delivery (delivery of 1 to 2 bottles of juice /day).
