What Is Scoliosis?

What is scoliosis2

What is scoliosis? Is it bad posture?

Scoliosis is a deformity of the spine. It is a medical condition in which a person’s spine has a three-dimensional deviation and structural asymmetry. Although it is a complex three-dimensional condition, when X-rays are viewed from behind, the spine can resemble an “S” or a “C” curve. It should be straight.

The Aetiology of the Scoliosis :

1. 80-85% of scoliosis is referred to as Idiopathic Scoliosis. This means that its cause or origin is unknown.
2. Congenital refers to abnormality in development.
3. Neuromuscular: nerve and muscular condition that can cause Scoliosis.

What is scoliosis

To know if your children have scoliosis, You can perform these quick checks:

1. Asymmetrical posture. Tilted hips, uneven shoulder height, asymmetrical waist contour
2. Ask you child to place their hands together in front of them. Bend forward and place their clasped hands between their knees. Look for any signs of humping over the upper torso or low back.
3. Have your child’s posture checked by professionals.

If it left untreated, your loved ones will risk the chance of:
1. Higher incidences of back pain
2. Physiological dysfunction
3. Muscular imbalance

There are generally 2 types of treatment for Scoliosis, the first type is surgical and non-surgical intervention, and the second type is non-surgical treatments which include exercises, rehabilitation, bracing and many other conservative techniques.
