The Truth about High Heels

7 Truths about High Heels

High heels (1)

(Warning…Ladies…you probably won’t like what you are about to read!)

Ladies, do you love your heels? The higher the better, right? Did you know that high heels were originally made for men? This bad habit was quickly abandoned by men and adopted by women.

1. Lower back pain: Heels increase the arches of your back. This increases pressure in your lower back thereby irritating your nerves, joints and other sensitive spinal structures.

2. Foot pain: High heel shoes are not designed for practicality but appearance. Historically, French aristocrats used high heels as a status symbol. Impracticality was a sign of nobility and wealth. Afterall, being upper class means you don’t need to walk far or plough the fields. Impractical wear was the rage.

3. Sore calf muscles: Did you know that prolonged usage of high heels not only causes calf muscle pain but unsightly varicose veins?

4. Sprained ankle: Enough said!

5. Spinal curvature: Heels may accentuate your lower back and make you look “bahenol” but this comes at a cost. Hyper-extension of your lower back, long-term impact to your spine, knees, foot and many many more other parts of your body.

6. Blood vessel constriction: Studies show that the pressure placed on the tip of a ladies heel is equivalent to balancing an elephant on a needle. The amount of downward force placed on your feet and to hold it in place with a constrictive shoe can lead to swelling, blood vessel
breakage and etc.

7. Ugly crooked feet and huge chunky bulging toes: Years and years of pursuing that perfect look comes with a cost. Bony and structural remodeling. Bones react to pressure and will shape itself accordingly.

Tips: Are those pair of high heel really that important? Flat shoes can be stunningly attractive and definitely better for your health and your poor feet. Get your feet checked first, because there will be specific shoes for different type of feet.
