On Friday, 2 October 2015, one of Indonesia’s leading fine wine distributors PT Dwimitra Sukses Perkasa (DSP) and The Salt Grill at Altitude Jakarta held the exclusive “Not another Wine Dinner” to showcase one of the distributor’s best collections: the Domaines Barons de Rothschild wines, to pair with fine cuisine of Salt Grill’s Executive Chef MJ Alguera.

The name Rothschild Rothschild has been synonymous with vintage Bordeaux wines and the vintage Lafite Rothschild is one of the most expensive wines that can be found. For the night, guest were presented with four of their most representative fine wines: the Los Vascos 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Château d’Aussières 2010, the Légende Bordeaux Rouge 2013, and the Los Vascos Grande Reserve 2012.

For the first course, guests were presented with a dish of caramelized onion tart, topped with slow cooked hen’s egg, grilled asparagus and honey thyme dressing to pair with the Chilean Los Vascos 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, the winery’s classic with a lively ruby red color and fresh red fruit note with just a hint of spice.

The wine journey continues with Château d’Aussières 2010 a wine with a mix of Syrah Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan grapes. A rich wine with remarkably long finish, made of grapes strictly selected from the best plots in the vineyard, made in limited quantities. To pair, a subtle red wine poached barramundi with silky celeriac puree and freshly-grilled prawns were served.

Further into the night, the chatters grew louder and ambiance merrier as we were entertained with upbeat tunes from DJ Myra Alexa who collaborated with saxophonist extradordinaire Sistha Anindya. Salt Grill’s open kitchen also enables the diners to have a look into the kitchen’s rush and busy activities, with chef MJ leading the command.

To go with the main course, the Légende Bordeaux Rouge 2013 was presented, a subtle and elegant wine that combines spicy aromas with some toasted beans notes. The palate is well-structured, with smooth acidity and a fresh, aromatic liquorice finish. This elegant wine went along great with chef MJ’s succulent a l’orange duck breasts, glazed duck legs, a cut of duck sausage, served with baby spinach and truffle-seasoned pureed potatoes.

For dessert, a warm chocolate anglaise was poured on a dome-shaped pure dark chocolate, revealing a cluster of summer berries sitting on top of a bed of airy yet decadent chocolate sponge cake. To pair, Los Vascos Grande Reserve 2012 was served. A wine from a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Syrah and Malbec grapes, the 2012 has a fruity aroma reminiscent of plums, blueberries and ripe blackberries that blend superbly with notes of chocolate, coffee, and pepper.
