10 Things To Do in Bandung

1. Take Amazing Shot of ‘Kawah Putih’ (White Crater)

Kawah Putih is one of the craters of Mount Patuha, a mountain about 50 km to the southwest of Bandung in Ciwidey area, and one of the many volcanoes in west Java including Mt Malabar, Mt Wayang, and Mount Papandayan. There used to be a sulfur mine at Kawah Putih, hence the strong sulfur smell, so make sure you prepare some kind of scarf or face mask to cover your mouth while you’re there. Kawah Putih’s striking whitish-blue color and easy to access location makes it a popular among the locals for wedding pictures.

2. Marvel the View of Situ Patenggang (Lake Patengang)

Just about 7 km or 10 minutes away by car from Kawah Putih lake is the equally famous Situ Patenggang or Lake Patenggang. Enjoy the nice view or rolling tea plantation hills in a passenger boat that the locals rent out for a small fee.

3. Horse Riding at De Ranch Lembang – Bandung

As the name suggests, DE’ RANCH is a horse-riding pasture located in Lembang, west of Bandung. Other than horse riding, you also can also ride a horse-drawn carriage and kids can do all kinds of fun activities in the children’s playground, play boat pond, fishing pond, wall climbing followed by flying fox, bungee jumping, and many others. Do try the local favorite snacks such as the grilled banana, sticky rice, corn while watching horses and cows are grazing in some area. Entrance is only Rp. 5000, and each game has its own fare, which is around Rp. 15,000 to 25,000. Tip: visit DE’ RANCH really early in the morning, around 9-10am to avoid traffic jam and to get a parking spot.

4. Visit Tangkuban Perahu

Literally means ‘upturned boat’ because of its boat-like shaped, Tangkuban Perahu is an active volcano located about 30 km north of Bandung. This beautiful place is located in Lembang area, approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour from Bandung. A very popular tourist attraction where you can hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot water springs and boiling mud.

5. Shop ‘Til You Drop

Every weekend, tourists from neighboring cities and even countries flock to shop at the countless factory outlets in this city. You can found one just about in every corner of Bandung. Although there are four recommended areas in Bandung for visit worthy factory outlets: Jalan Setiabudi, Jalan Riau, Dago District and Cihampelas Area. Some of the trusted names include Rumah Mode (Jl. Setiabudi), Heritage (Jl. Riau), and Summit Boutique (Jl. Martadinata). Beware that while most of the products are authentic branded reject products, the occasional higher-end products you’d see are mostly fakes.

 

6. Get Pampered

7. Learn to Play Angklung

To get a real Sundanese experience, we recommend visiting the Saung Angklung Udjo where you can immerse yourself in a true West Java cultural experience and learn to play the angklung, the traditional Sundanese music instrument made out of Bamboo. ; SAU is one–stop cultural workshop, consists of : performance venue, bamboo handicraft centre, and bamboo instrument workshop. Apart from that, SAU has an honorable function as an educational laboratory and training centre to preserve the Sundanese culture – Angklung in particular.

8. Pick Your Own Strawberry at Ciwidey

There are numerous strawberry gardens you can choose from at Ciwidey Area. Here you can pick your own strawberry, enjoy it, and bring some home. A great family fun, especially for the kids!

 

9. Stargazing at Bandung’s Bosscha Observatory

Built in 1923 during the Dutch occupation, Bosscha Observatory is the oldest observatory in Indonesia. Visitors can come during the day to visit the facility, or at night, where you can use some of their telescopes, the portable and the Bramberg telescope. Call +62-22-2786001 for more information.

10. Explore Local Art at NuArt Sculpture Bandung 

Located at the northern part of Bandung, Indonesia, NuArt Sculpture Park lies in a 3 Ha property and was first opened to public in the year of 2000. Like its name, NuArt Sculpture Park primarily exhibits the works of the sculptor Nyoman Nuarta that spans from the beginning of his career to the latest masterpieces.
