Flood-causing Kemang Buildings Face Demolition, Plans for Sudirman-Bunderan HI Makeover

Dear Jakartans!

Following the reoccurring flooding in Jakarta, especially Kemang, the Jakarta Provincial Government is considering the dismantling over 500 buildings in the area that are impacted by Krukut river, especially those with questionable certificates. Jakarta Governor, Basuki T. Purnama said controlling for Kemang to be run this year. Currently, Dept. of Water Management is still dredging the river, but the dredging is limited due to many buildings along the riverbank.

The urban setting of Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin will see new changes very soon, as Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama plans to adorn the area with new facilities and improved infrastructure, The Jakarta Post reports. The Hotel Indonesia traffic circle (Bundaran HI) will soon encircle a dancing water fountain and the sidewalks of Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin would be widened by 9 to 10 meters. We can’t wait to see how it would turn up!
