Délifrance’s story starts not long after the first world war when four men teamed up to start a company that can employ French men who just came back from the war. This company later turned into Grands Moulins Réunis, and later into Grands Moulins de Paris, one of the world’s biggest industrial flour mill. The company still insists on using wheat flour. produced mainly by conventional farmers in the Champagne Lorraine region.
After supplying flour to France’s bakers, the company later branched out and decided to bring their business worldwide by creating a brand that later become one of the most popular French import, Delifrance who now has more than 300 stores worldwide, creating classic breads and viennoiseries the way French bakers do it.
In Indonesia, the brand took of a few years ago, but has now returned with a refreshed look and different partner in Indonesia. Highly popular in other Southeast Asean countries like The Philipines and Singapore, which has more than 100 stores, Jakarta’s first Délifrance in Gandaria city is a stylish restaurant and bakery that serves range of classic French style baked products such as croissants, gâteaux, fougasses, pains au chocolat, brioches, crisp praline, and baguettes, along with coffee and some pasta selection.
In its grand reveal to the public last week, Delifrance even brough with them the face of Délifrance, and arguably one of French Cuisine’s, michelin star and Bocuse D’Or winner, Chef Michel Roth to endorse Delifrance’s mission as a French pastry’s most readily available ambassador in the world.
Chef Roth expressed his inclination to support the brand for the Company’s dedication to promote French baked goods, and also for its convivial way of doing things. “Although it is a big international company, I still fell we are all like one big family in Délifrance.” explains Roth, who was not above getting busy in Délifrance Jakarta’s kitchen with the bakery’s kitchen staff all day long.
