Say ‘see you later!’ to the 3-in-1 system in Jakarta’s main road (at least temporarily!). Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama has said earlier this week that the city administration will temporarily suspend the implementation of Jakarta’s three-in-one carpool system starting Monday next week, amid questions about its effectiveness and the rampant exploitation of children it created. To be in effect for up to 2 weeks, get ready for serious change in traffic flow in Sudirman!
Following last week’s massive strike against app based transportation services by thousands of taxi drivers, the government has required both Uber and GrabTaxi to either cooperate with legal public transportation operator or establish a legal company, by May 31. Both companies have stated that they are ready to comply with the requirements within the given period. As a side note, the Singapore-based GrabTaxi is has announced their partnership with one of Indonesia’s biggest conglomerates, Lippo Group.
