5 Movies To Watch This September

Log-off from your Netflix and head to the studios for major releases this month that we are too excited about!

IT

Director: Andy Muschietti

For many of Stephen King’s fans, IT is one of his seminal work that deserves to be mentioned as one of the greatest horror fiction of all time. The story of Pennywise the clown who terrorize the children of Derry, Maine is a story of facing your intimate fears and understanding how the devil in you works.

MOTHER!

Director: Darren Aronofsky

Aronofsky returns to familiar territory, psychological thriller. Nothing about the plot line has been clear apart from the story of a couple in a remote house who was challenged by another couple. We are sure excited to see Javier Bardem, Jennifer Lawrence, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeifer in starring roles together.

PENGABDI SETAN (Satan’s Slave)

Director: Joko Anwar

Based on the 1980 cult Indonesian horror flick, Pengabdi Setan returns with a new director at the helm, who is also responsible for many of Indonesian cult movies like “Janji Joni” among many others. The movie is expected to heal the Indonesian public faith of proper Indonesian horror, just like when we had Jelangkung in the 90s that was directed by the duo Rizal Mantovani and Jose Poernomo, and the original “Pengabdi Setan” which bears resemblance to Don Coscarelli’s 1979 film “Phantasm” and remains one of Indonesia’s scariest horror movies.

DETROIT

Director: Kathryn Bigelow

Based on the 1967’s 12th street riot in the city Detroit, Kathryn Bigelow, who also directed the acclaimed Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker, returned to the event with an honest and gritty look of one of America’s most violent civil disturbance.

THE BATTLESHIP ISLAND

Director: Ryoo-Seung wan

The films tell the story of an attempted prison break from a concentration camp, Hashima island, during the Japanese occupation era of Korea. The film is wildly praised for Seung Wan’s effective camera work on a large scale action set.
