WNJ Newsletter + Pilatology

Dear Jakartans!

Last Thursday, Jakarta was temporarily shocked by a gun and bomb attack in Sarinah area. At least eight people, four attackers and four civilians, were killed and 23 others were injured. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the attack. The people of Jakarta, shown in the social media buzz, reacted by denouncing the attack with #KamiTidakTakut hashtag (we are not afraid) and peace rallies around the area. In a lighter note and to the amazement of many, the focus was quickly drawn into how little the people of the city was affected with the act of terrorism. How has this event affected your life in Jakarta? Comment Below to share your thoughts.

A drug raid in Matraman, East Jakarta yesterday resulted in two policemen stabbed and one feared dead after being thrown in to Ciliwung River.  The team of five officers from the Central Jakarta Police Narcotics Unit had initially succeeded in arresting three suspected drug dealers in the area, but was interrupted by a group of people who came to location and started attacking the officers. The two stabbed officers are currently undergoing medical treatment, while the other police officer is still missing.
