9 Alternative Sports To Do in Jakarta

One of the key to stay health and stay happy in Jakarta is to always get moving and find new physical things to do. If you feel a little burned out with your normal jogging routes or the same gym routines, we recommend trying out some new activities offered around Jakarta. If you haven’t already, check out these cool things listed below that can help you get more excited about working out and to work some new muscle regions!

1. Archery

An ancient sport that has been around for hundreds of years, archery has recently started to gain popularity in Jakarta. It might seem simple, but archery is a lot more than just a simple aim, pull & release. It is known to be one of the fields of sport that requires the most focus, patience and stability. If you are interested to pick up a bow and arrow, Jakarta has its own archery club: Jakarta Private Archery, where both kids (ages 10 and up) and adults can learn and practice this ancient art.

2. Rock Climbing

For a slightly more extreme sport, check out Jakarta Climber, a group of wall climber group that provide rock climbing classes for all ages in Plaza Festival, Kuningan. They also have a kids’ class on Sundays, from 9am to 11am. Fee: Rp. 100,000 per person/visit.

3. Hockey

Play some hockey with the ISCI Jakarta, a very socially inclined club that gathers to play field hockey in Jakarta, consists of a mixture of locals and expatriates. ‘Training’ and games are held at Gelora Bung Karno (Senayan) water-based artificial turf pitch every Wednesday night (from 8pm) and Saturday afternoon (from 4pm).  All are welcome, beginners included. There is no membership fee, just pay when you play at Rp. 100,000 per game (towards pitch rental).

4. Master Boot Camp

One of a popular way in Jakarta to get toned up and to lose lots of body fat by doing 1 hour of outdoor circuit training, which targets strength building and muscular endurance. 5. Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, from a variety of other combat sports and martial arts such as Muay Thai, Jiu-jitsu and wrestling.
