More Rain for Jakarta | Second Round ‘Pilkada’ on April

Dear Jakartans!

Following heavy rains in the early hours of Tuesday (21/02), Jakarta saw more than 50 areas flooded to up to 100 cm high, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, or BNPB, that received more than 400 reports of flooding across the capital. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said to Tempo that an increase in precipitation is expected to occur for the rest of the week in Jakarta. Stay dry, people!

The race to become governor of Jakarta is officially heading for a second round, expected to be held on April 19th 2017 after the incumbent Ahok-Djarot only lead with 43 to 40 per cent of the vote to Anies-Sandi in last week’s Wednesday election. A record 80 per cent of voters turned out to exercise their democratic right.

Last minute mid-week party idea for you: Stop by to Raffles Hotel’s Writers Bar tonight starting from 7pm, as Jason and I will be bar-tending for charity. Half of what you spend will go to the charity Kampung Kids for the less fortunate kids. This will be the 1st event in our “Goodbye to Jakarta” schedule before we leave for Shanghai. Hope to see you there!
