Six hotels in Jakarta Unite in Support of Indonesia Mengajar Foundation
Jakarta, Indonesia – October 2015 – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Asia Pacific today announced that its ‘Run to Give’ charity run is take place in 105 locations across Asia Pacific on 11 October 2015. As part of this Asia Pacific-wide initiative, Le Meridien Jakarta, Keraton at The Plaza, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Jakarta, Sheraton Bandara Hotel, Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers, Sheraton Gandaria City and Sheraton Lampung Hotel in Jakarta are join hands to organize the event with support of Indonesia Mengajar Foundation as the beneficiary. Run to Give also marks the kick-off in Asia Pacific of Together As One (TAO), Starwood’s annual global volunteer campaign.
Now in its second year, Starwood has dedicated the entire month of October to TAO to encourage additional volunteer efforts and also celebrate its associates’ volunteer work that takes place year-round throughout the world, making a positive impact in their communities. Across Asia Pacific, Starwood associates have volunteered more than 6500 hours of community service in 2014 alone.
“Run to Give underscores Starwood’s commitment to drive meaningful impact to the local communities as we recognize that the vitality of our business is directly linked to the vitality of the places where we operate,” said Stephen Ho, President, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Asia Pacific. “Last year was the first time we organized the charity run to immense response; this year with the continued support from our associates, we are confident that Run To Give will accomplish more than we ever could alone.”
Started in 2014 as Hotel Charity Run, the inaugural event saw an overwhelming response of over 20,000 runners take part in 92 locations across Asia Pacific; raising a total of close to USD 228,000. Associates from Starwood hotels all over the region organized these unique runs to raise funds for a local charity in which their hotels operated in. This year, the run took on the official event name ‘Run to Give’ – chosen amongst close to 500 internal submission entries by Starwood associates, best representing the spirit of the charity event.
Lots of children may live in disadvantaged conditions – some of them are homeless, have no family or are in poor health – however this event shows they are not alone, there are many people who care. We were thrilled finding out the fantastic and enthusiastic support from our associates and also from the public who supported this event and raised funds of IDR 121,513,700,- ( one hundred twenty one million five hundred thirteen thousand and seven hundred) to support education’s program for underprivileged children”, said Robert Hogenstijn, General Manager of Le Meridien Jakarta on behalf of the five hotel properties.
The race held in Jakarta is divided into 5 KM and for the most fashionable runner category. The route will see participants running across the city of Jakarta at Car Free Day area. Before the race started, participants singing the Indonesian National anthem. The first winners for Male and Female category got return ticket to Europe sponsored by Kuwait Airways, the second and third winner for each category got staying voucher from Keraton at The Plaza and Le Meridien Jakarta. Medals were provided for the first 200 finishers. To add more excitement, there were band performances from Soul Vibe band and a lucky draw.

No less than 700 runners, hotels associates and their families, as well as many other distinguished participants were running with a smile on their face; knowing they were participating in a healthy and fun exercise while running for a better future for less fortunate children; as all the proceeds raised will be used for better education of children at remote areas through Indonesia Mengajar foundation.
