Uh-oh, my phone won’t start! What should I do? Should I go to an authorized service center? Or should I try go to an ITC like a normal Jakartans and have it fixed to one of the gazillion shops out there? But which one should I go to?
The simple, but essential task like fixing your phone can be a headache, no matter where you are. In Jakarta, you have the option of taking it to the authorized service center if your warranty is still valid, but sometimes it can take forever to fix and if your warranty has already expired, the price can be steep. Here is a list on where you can get your gadgets fixed or serviced in Jakarta. Bear in mind, that unauthorized shops usually only take full responsibilities of the well-being of your gadget one week after it gets fixed, so proceed with care and see it as an option or a ‘just-in-case’ scenario. Buying cellphones from unauthorized distributor is also not recommended, even when the packaging looks completely sealed and when the seller swears it is legit.
1. Ratu Plaza
Officially called ‘e-Mall’ but we’ve never heard anyone calling it that! Ratu Plaza is popular because of its location, sandwiched between South Jakarta’s premium malls and office buildings in Sudirman. For the last 10 years or so this mall is the go to for gadget-minded people in the south to get or to service gadgets, to browse some (pirated) DVDs, and shop at the hyper mart downstairs, all in one go. Although not with as many options as other similar malls, ratu plaza has quite the good selection of shops bringing in laptops, computer accessories, cameras, apple products, game consoles, and several apple service centers. The price is not the cheapest around, but it is where you can find anything computer or gadget related in Senayan area; from data cables, WiFi routers, power adapters, go pro cameras, etc.

2. Mal Ambassador
Many people blur this mall and Mal Ambassador, as they are connected with each other, and it is easy to realize in which one you are once inside. There is an overwhelming selection of computers and gadget stores in Mal Ambassador. In addition to that, some stores also provide servicing in an affordable price. We recommend getting an exact quote (written, if possible) before letting any shop work on your gadget. Another trick is to observe the store on how many people coming and going in to service/get/wait on their gadget. The good ones usually have a line or a crowd of customers in the store.

3. ITC Kuningan
ITC Kuningan is actually a multi-product market, selling clothes, shoes, and anything you can think of, including gadgets, on the 3rd floor. Other than selling the gadgets themselves, you can find some reliable places to service your gadget too. As the case with going to any ITCs, before agreeing to any price, compare prices with neighboring stores that offer the same product/services. Not only that, because all stores look the same, make sure you jot down the address of the store, or grab their name card, so you can actually go back to the same store after doing some browsing! For comparison, a new battery cell for an iPhone 4 costs Rp. 450,000 (with installation). For any repairs without spare part purchase, it should not be more than Rp. 200,000.

4. ITC Fatmawati
Very similar to ITC Kuningan, with rows of stores selling new and used phones and tablets, so approach the same measures, browse and find stores that do claim they fix phones, and ask for a quote. Be specific in what is wrong with your phones. Popular for those living in the South Jakarta. Other than gadget stores, located on the next building to ITC Fatmawati is also where lots of car enthusiasts hang, as it is where many car repair shops are located.
