Today we see more Mexican food incorporated to more menus and new places have opened, even in malls! We see this is a good sign that Indonesians, Jakartans especially, have begun embracing one of the most celebrated import from the south of America—the palate stimulating, mouthwatering Mexican Cuisine. Though not quite as spicy and rich as Indonesian food, Mexican cuisine still has one the most intense and refreshing flavours, due to its heavy usage of chilies and fresh vegetable. If you are a big fan yet still having troubles finding that good plate of enchiladas in the city, here is our top pick of some of the best Mexican places in Jakarta.
1. Amigos Kemang & Bellagio $$
The pioneers of Tex-Mex food in Jakarta, popular with expats and families. They have salsa nights on Tuesday and Friday in Kemang. It also has a branch in Mall Bellagio in Mega Kuningan. An institution in Jakarta, Amigos opened its doors in 1979. This Tex-Mex eatery has a loyal fanbase and is famous for the margaritas, fresh salsa, and tasty, finger-licking, home-made recipes. The Kemang location has live bands 5 nights a week and is well known for their Latin Night on Friday nights where salsa lovers come to dance the night away. We recommend the classic dishes such as the hearty Baja Burrito, flavorful Beef Chimichangas, and flavorful Fish Tacos – using authentic corn-based tortilla- as well as hearty western classics such as steaks, burgers, and sandwiches.

Keraton at The Plaza proudly presents a Modern Mexican Kitchen. Using premium ingredients, Chef Lamberto Valdez Lara, the culinary director of Keraton at The Plaza, creates a menu that is different yet familiar to the Indonesian palette. Popular menu items such as tacos, enchiladas, burritos and fajitas are paired with unique ingredients such as grilled nopal (grilled cactus), lengua (slow cooked beef tongue) and huitlacoche (corn fungus).
3. Hacienda $$
Another upscale take on Mexican dining and fiesta.. The careful use of distressed brick face, application of contrasting yet complementing colors, and the heavy old antique door at the store front reflects the elegant Spanish theme of the establishment. In the kitchen, Chef Gerardo Milan whips up classic his signatures such as the Chile Relleno, Enchiladas de Mole, Chuletas de Puerco, and other classic Mexican cuisines, best to be enjoyed with a bottle of cold beer. Hacienda is also renowned for its selection of refreshing and tasty signature Mexican inspired drinks such as the Galliano Margarita, Amorcito Corazon, and Michelada.

5. La Hoya Comida Mexicana
Located in Gandaria City Mall, La Hoya’s interior exudes classic elegance reminiscent of a Spanish estate, with oversized mirrors, dark mahogany color, black iron work and leather upholstery. La Hoya serves tex-mex food, presented delicately and using fresh ingredients in its preparation. Food portions aren’t too massive, but the great taste makes up for the size. Among the favorite is Los Nachos, Taco Barbacoa (pulled beef), Fried Burrito (with a selection of salsa roja or verde), and other specialties. Don’t forget to try some of their delicious cocktails and margaritas and enjoy them in their semi-alfresco terrace.
