Finding a good place to read in Jakarta is actually never too hard if you’re willing to go the extra-mile. But first, let’s clarify what kind of book readers are you? Some people would enjoy total silence when they read their books, but some tolerates well with noises running in the background and if not, adds to the enjoyment of reading the book itself.
If, you, like we do here at whatsnewjakarta.com, enjoys a good fiction (we’re catching up on our Proust and Baudelaire) every now and then with a good cup of java (or a brew you say?), then perhaps these places should prove worth checking out, perfectly paired with your latest New York Times Bestseller.
Reading Room
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into this cafe is that the stacks of books in every corner making it look like a book depository. Owned by the guy who used to ran one of the country’s most esteemed bookstore (QB Bookshop), Reading Room offers comfortable couches for you to sit, a viewing room (should you want to catch up on the latest palm d’or film), a great hefty selections of food and beverages (their coffee’s pretty decent), and if you’re looking to spend your hours away reading books, this might be the first place on your list.

Starbucks Reserve Pakubuwono
With a lot of Starbucks Reserve openings its shop in the capital (mostly in malls), we were intrigued by the one located in Pakubuwono. Looking like your everyday neighbourhood coffee shop, the new Starbucks Reserve Indonesia offers premium coffees for serious coffee drinkers. You can talk about your coffee with the baristas or have your coffee tailor-made specifically in front of you. But what’s great about this place is not just the coffee, take a look around, there’s a lot of good places to sit and enjoy your book, and the neighbourhood’s awfully serene and comfy.
