Jakarta New Dining: Henshin, The Highest Restaurant in Indonesia

After a long wait or roughly about a year after Westin Jakarta hotel arrived in Jakarta, its most anticipated dining venue, Henshin, is finally here. Perched on the 67th to the 69th floor of the hotel, the bar & restaurant is ready to serve curious minds and tastebuds starting tomorrow, July 20th 2017.

Henshin is a a multi-level, multi-dimensional, food and beverage with one of the most spectacular city views you could possibly find in the city. The food is authentic Nikkei cuisine, a delicate mix of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine which were developed by Japanese immigrants residing in Peru over a decade ago.

Henshin’s culinary motor, Chef Hajime Kasuga, is a descendant of Japan and a third-generation Nikkei residing in Peru, has brought along his team from Latin America for the opening of this restaurant.

To get to Henshin, you will be ushered to an exclusive elevator directly accessed through the hotel lobby. On the 67th floor, guests will be greeted with a lively ambiance as it is decorated with colorful tiles with a traditional pattern and natural stones adorning the bar area. On this level, guests can choose to refresh and relax in either the indoor or alfresco bar and lounge area that can accommodate 90 people.

With signature music from Henshin’s house DJs in the background, guests can enjoy special Ceviches or Tiraditos and the freshest sushi and sashimi prepared in the lounge’s mini sushi bar, perfectly paired with unique Nikkei-inspired cocktails made by their mixologists.

Stepping up to the 68th and 69th floor, a completely different world opens. Floor to ceiling glass windows surrounds you and give you an unprecedented 360 view of Jakarta’s night view from a bird’s eye view (Henshin’s bar opens from 5pm and its restaurant starts at 6pm).

Although it is a fine-dining venue, the cooking concept is still open kitchen so you can always peer and converse with the chefs with the exotic world of Nikkei cuisine.

Before getting to the mains, we recommend opting for the Chef Hajime’s appetizing hot and cold starters such as Ceviche Clasico – a marinated fish in lemon and Peruvian chili – and the signature Henshin Roll that combines foie gras, fried shrimp and spicy crab meat roll with unagi and avocado served with sweet and indonikkei sambal, before enjoying the wide selection of sometimes wild, occasionally surprising, but always refreshing and incredibly tasty main courses such as Del Pato (sous vide duck meat), the signature H Octopus, and the succulent Short Rib Pachamancha.
