This morning, Jakarta’s main road saw a celebratory parade of our #RioOlympics heroes who won the only gold medal for Indonesia, Lilyana Natsir and Tontowi Ahmad. The two badminton athletes arrived in Jakarta yesterday, and have been met by Indonesia’s Ministry of Sports and Youth, and this morning, President Joko Widodo. In addition to their Rp. 5 billion bonus from the government, it was also reported that AirAsia will give lifetime free flights for Asean gold medalists, including Indonesia’s Natsir & Ahmad. Congratulations to both of them!
The Finance Ministry of Indonesia will study whether the price of a package of cigarettes can be raised to IDR 50,000 (approx. USD $3.8), almost twice as high as the current average price in Indonesia. It is estimated that there are 53.7 million active adult smokers and 2.6 million active youth smokers in Indonesia, making it the third-largest cigarette consumer in the world after China and Russia.
The trial of the odd-even traffic rule in Jakarta will soon end, which means that starting from 30 August 2016, drivers will get a Rp. 500,000 fine if they drove their vehicle on the wrong dates on odd-even zones, which includes MH Thamrin, Jenderal Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, dan HR Rasuna Said, Monday to Friday, 7-10 am and 4-8pm.
