Electronic Parking Terminals to be Installed in Kemang

Dear Jakartans!

The Jakarta provincial government recently addressed plans to take full control of Kemang’s parking operations. This takeover is deemed necessary after recent reports of extortionate rate of street parking, as much as Rp. 40 thousand per car. Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama wants to install Electronic Parking Terminals, such as those already operating in Sabang area, Central Jakarta. Last week’s clash between a visitor and parking attendant on Jalan Taman Kemang led to fighting and vandalism, highlights parking stress in the area.

Two workers killed and 12 others injured after a construction site of Swiss-Belhotel in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, caught fire on Sunday afternoon. The fire was sparked by an electric short circuit on the building’s 23rd floor.  Five construction workers were trapped on the 23rd floor and tried to escape via a gondola, two workers lost their grip and plummeted. A dozen other workers were injured during the incident, The Jakarta Globe reported.

The government intends to make the new Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, a major gateway for tourism, a top official said Tuesday. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that as more than 15 million tourists from Australia travel to China, India and other destinations, Indonesia could tap into the number by attracting a portion of that to stop over and later to visit Indonesia. Terminal 3 officially started operations on Tuesday by welcoming Garuda Indonesia passengers from Jayapura.
