Jakarta, August 2017 – grandkemang Jakarta team had recently visited Indonesian Childhood Cancer Foundation, more commonly known as YOAI Foundation that located in Slipi, West Jakarta. This program was a continuation of the previous event of Grandkemang Fest 2017 where the hotel organized a Garage Sale for this charity. The Garage Sale got a very good support from the management, staff, Kemang residents as well as from visitors of grandkemang Fest that it had successfully collected more than 7 million rupiah for YOAI.
On the visit to YOAI, Ibu Kartika Purwanto, one of the founders, explained about the history of the foundation, from how it established, types of cancers children, and also the activities they had. The team also had a chance to see and talk to some of the patients and parents when visiting the YOAI House.
YOAI was established on 24 May 1993 by some parents who were grateful for the recovery of their children inflicted by cancer. It is a non-profit organization especially for childhood cancer. They help children with cancer by supporting them financially for the treatment fee and other activities. The foundation believes that regardless of their financial or social status, every child with cancer deserves access to the best possible treatment and care. YOAI has been working together with some big hospitals such as Rumah Sakit (RS) Kanker
Dharmais, DR Cipto Mangunkusumo, RS Fatmawati, RSPAD Gatot Subroto, and RSAB Harapan Kita.
They have several activities such as provide special child care unit for cancer treatment in RS Kanker Dharmais and Adam Malik, provide One Day Care unit in RS Fatmawati and RSCM, create YOAI house for patients and families coming from outside Jakarta such as Borneo, Papua, Batam, etc. They annually hold a Cancer Camp for cancer survivors to share knowledge and experience. To create and motivate patients who have successfully recovered from the disease, called Cancer Buster Community.
“We are very impressed with the work and dedication of the YOAI foundation. And we are very happy to support them to help the children with cancer. We hope grandkemang Jakarta could support more in future,” says Florent Humeau, General Manager of grandkemang Jakarta.
