The World Mourns as Paris Suffered Terrorist Attack

Dear Jakartans,

Our most sincere condolences to the innocent civilians who became victims of the Paris attack. Three teams of gun-wielding ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) suicide bombers hit six busy locations around Paris that killed 129 and injured 433 people. The attacks were the deadliest in France since World War II and the deadliest in Europe since the Madrid train bombings in 2004. ISIL has also claimed responsibility for the blasts that killed 43 and injured 239 people the day prior.

In a statement on Monday, Marriott International had agreed to buy Starwood Hotels & Resorts in a $12.2 billlion in cash and shares deal, creating the world’s largest hotel company.  The company said the combined company – which will include the Sheraton, W Hotels and Ritz-Carlton brands, will have more than 5,500 hotels, and one million rooms. The decision brings to an end a year of speculation over who will buy Starwood.
