Jakarta Gears Up For Rainy Season & The Opening of Irish Embassy Jakarta

Dear Jakartans,

As rain starts to pour on a daily basis, the Jakarta government gears up to tackle flooding; Drains are being dredged to ease water flow, and two water-pump houses have been prepared at two dams in North Sunter to help alleviate problems during rain and flood. The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Jakarta is also training 5,000 volunteers to assist citizens in the case of heavy flooding, and a ‘banjir’ task force, that will monitor and stand by critical areas, has been prepared by Jakarta’s Police Department.

Good news for the Irish expats living in Indonesia, a resident Embassy of Ireland has now been officially established in Jakarta, Indonesia. The ambassador is Mr. Kyle O’Sullivan, who presented his credentials to the President of Indonesia on 13 October. The good news was confirmed by Ireland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Charles Flanagan in the bilateral meeting with Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Retno Marsudi during the 12th “Asia-Europe Meeting” (ASEM) in Luxembourg, last week.  The new embassy is located in the World Trade Centre building, Jakarta.

I had a great power lunch last week at the one and only BAM! Tapas & Sake Bar, where we enjoyed special tapas & sakes prepared by the skillful chef Arturo Hernandez. Definitely recommended for business or casual dining, and BCA credit card holders get 30% off too!  If you missed the event, keep your eyes peeled for more exciting power lunches to grow your network.
