If you think Jazzercise is something that your moms did in the 80s, think again! Jazzercise, an exercise class already popular in USA, UK, Australia, Japan and other countries officially opened its first fitness studio in Jl. Terogong Raya No. 14E Cilandak, Jakarta. Each 60-minute Jazzercise class features a fusion of dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and Latin-style movements set to popular music.
Jazzercise was first started by Judi Sheppard Missett in 1969 who originally held dance lessons but later made the classes more of a workout class to gain more participants. The jazz warm-ups that she used made the classes renamed as ‘jazzercise’, and from then on it did become a sensation of the 80s. in 2015, the company began a rebranding project to breath in new life to the popular exercise program and gave the brand a new look, new colors, and new focus.
The new focus includes the routinely updated music used in the classes using today’s dance hits that you would expect to hear from the dance floor. As you start the class, you will feel more like you’re about to rave, with lights dimmed and strobe and led lights flickering, pumping your adrenaline and urges you to move your feet. Before you know it, you’ll already burn more calories than expected. Helen Irawati, Indonesia’s first certified Jazzercise Instructor, said that a class could incinerate up to 800 calories in one 60 minutes class. Apart from the popular ‘Dance Mixx Jazzercise Program, there is also a variety of classes to choose from including Strike, Fusion, Core, Strength45, and Strength60.
