18 October 2016 – Oakwood Premier Cozmo Jakarta associates and guests took part for the second time in the Clean Up Jakarta Day on Sunday morning, the 16th of October 2016. It was a two hours activity of picking up rubbish into separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste at Taman Suropati, Menteng. The event was well attended by approximately 20,000 local and expatriate volunteers from various community groups, schools and private firms at 53 locations across the capital.
The total waste collected during the event weighed a grand total of approximately 80,000 kg which is equal to 80 tones coming from the streets and gutters from 53 sites in North, East, South, West and Central Jakarta. Approximately 3,000 kg of waste was delivered to the city’s Bank Sampah for further sorting and recycling.
By involving the community to be a clean up hero, we can spread the message that it is our responsibility to keep the city clean for a better Jakarta. The Clean Up Jakarta Day is an annual event that brings together communities and volunteers through cooperation in a community (gotong royong) spirit for a cleaner Jakarta.
This program attempts to educate people about the harmful effects of littering, and in turn spark an awareness of the importance of recycling.
