When travelling to Bali, one of the most important elements to choose is accommodation. This will ensure whether your holiday is memorable or not. What’s your consideration when choosing the perfect place? If you love good design and ambiance like no other, then you can choose from these selections. Not only did we choose places that are relatively new, but also fit into the boutique hotel category. In these instagram-able places, details are key and everything is simply beautiful.
BISMA EIGHT UBUD
Bisma Eight is not your typical hotel in Ubud. They use the term, Modern Tropical to describe their property. This explains the ultra-chic and minimalist look that is combined with traditional Balinese craftsmanship. You can see it in the contemporary teak wood furniture, ikat pillows, woven jute rugs that are all produced in Ubud. The hotels consist of 38 spacious suites that are divided into three categories. We especially love their sungkai wood partition that separates the bed and living area. Not to mention, their Japanese-inspired soaking tub made from Cedar Wood. How they play with various woods and create juxtaposition with raw concrete, steel and glass and then complete the look with lush surroundings is amazing. Unlike typical modern design, they successfully create warm ambiance throughout the hotel. “Everything at Bisma Eight is done with intention. Even the smallest details are curated with care and pride, creating an experience that speaks for itself,” says Suraj Melwani, Bisma Eight co-founder. Make sure you come and visit this place when in Ubud.

KATAMAMA
If you’re looking for the new IT place in Bali, then Katamama Hotel is that place. From the company that brought us Potato Head, Katamama offers the guest a chance to experience real luxury and Indonesian culture through a contemporary context. Straight on, the more than 1 million hand-pressed Balinese brick used in the façade catches our attention. Then they add the teak flooring, hand-made tiles from Java and terrazzo to complete the look. Simply stunning. The hotel consists of 58-suites that are filled with curated artwork, handpicked furniture and cherished collectibles from the owner’s personal collection. “The idea behind Katamama was to represent Bali. It should feel Balinese, but modern at the same time. The main concept is actually the ‘modern’ architecture of 60s and 70s. It’s very geometrical,” says Andra Matin, the architect. Katamama also worked with the best brand to complete their look, starting from rugs from Tarum, Gianyar; Gaya ceramics, Ubud; textiles from Tjok Agung Indigo and many more. We love it!

HOTEL INDIGO BALI SEMINYAK BEACH
One gorgeous property that we must mention here is Hotel Indigo that is opening its first resort in Seminyak on Q3 this year. The Hotel Indigo brand is especially famous throughout the world for its design that reflects local culture and delivers vibrant and genuine boutique experience. So we can’t wait what they have for us in Bali. Located in front of Mesari Beach, this hotel will feature 270 rooms and suites, and 19 villas. Each equipped with a spa-inspired bathroom and fitted with artful interiors, vibrant modern color palette, locally-influenced decors and furnishings. For the overall feel, we can enjoy the signature geometrical lines that predominantly grace the resort at entrances, canopies and walls. All are creative interpretation of the traditional Balinese weaving textile – Tenun Songket. Meanwhile, the large hanging lamps’ design is inspired by the topper and structure of Balinese festive umbrellas. It’s so much fun watching how properties interpret Bali in their own style. This one, we can’t wait to see it when their open soon.

RUMAH LUWIH
Luwih in Javanese means ‘More” while rumah in Bahasa Indonesia means house. So this place can be defined as someplace more than just a house. With this in mind, noted architect Hadiprana create a space inspired by the architecture of easly 20th Century Water Palace of Karangasem. It echoes the multi-cultural history that is Indonesia, From its Peranakan inspired cuisine and classic Dutch era tiles with ornamental motifs, to the curated antiques, teakwood fittings and use of beautiful silk, every element is handpicked with a seemingly casual attention to detail creating a unique residential ambiance. You can feel the classic colonial Indonesian mansion when entering this hotel and its 75 spacious rooms. Rumah Luwih is Asian nostalgia at its finest.
