For its many similarities with Indonesian cuisine, Malaysian food often gets the back seat in popularity among foodies of Indonesia. but if you savor closely, Malaysian food is actually very rich in diversity and deserve more attention.
For 10 days (5-15 May 2017), you have the chance to try authentic Malaysian cuisine at Seasonal Tastes restaurant at Westin Jakarta. Other than the world famous Penang Char Kwey Teow, you will also get to sample another current highlight of the country, food from Kedah state.
If you’re used to the fried Kwey Teow commonly found in Indonesia (usually in Chinese-Indonesian types of establishments), the Penang one is more fragrant with the use of Malaysian shrimp paste, loaded with seafood such as shrimp, clams, and oysters served on banana leaf.
From Kedah, there’s the Kedah Laksa that is nothing like the more popular coconut milk Laksa. Kedah’s version is clearer and resembles more the Thai tom yam goong broth, but with a more unique flavors of fish (mackarel) and chopped ginger flower.
Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim was present at the opening and even showed his abilities to cook his version of Penang Kway Teow.
The Malaysian Culinary Delights starts today until 15 May 2017 at Westin Jakarta’s Seasonal Tastes. Other than the Kway Teow and Laksa, you will also get to try other Malaysian favorites such as Nasi Lemak, Fried Mee Hoon, Peknganyok, and many more. The price is Rp. 398.000++ for lunch buffet and Rp 438.000++ for dinner, inclusive of free flow of fruit juice, iced tea, and soft drink.
