Presenting at the event was Era Soekamto, Creative Director of Iwan Tirta Private Collection who explained the design and also meanings of popular batik prints.
Ruth Abellan, General Manager Gran Meliá Jakarta said that Batik is now not only Indonesia’s cultural heritage. “It is a pride for anyone that wears it, regardless of nationality. This inspires us to collaborate with Iwan Tirta Collection for this tribute” she added.
The Iwan Tirta Private Collection was established by the late Iwan Tirta, whose purpose at first was to preserve and showcase his precious batik, pottery, and art collection from all over Indonesia. Now, the brand has become one of modern batik’s benchmark, with more than 10,000 of Iwan Tirta’s own design.
