Have you been to Grand Indonesia east mall lately? You would have recognized a purple store front, in which they sell beautiful looking cakes and macarons. It is La Maison, a patisserie that holds many stories. Oh and the purple? It’s Stella Lowis’ mother favourite colour.
First opened in Medan, La Maison has gained an international reputation, where many of its customers came from outside the city and even the country. It’s founder, Stella Lowis, is a passionate chef who hopes to elevate the standard of culinary world in Indonesia.
“One of our competitive advantage is that we create mind-blowing new inventions to surprise and please the market, such as unique Indonesia’s famous flavours in the form of macarons such as Nasi Uduk, Lemper Ayam, Martabak Bangka and Sate Padang Macarons”
Unfortunately, on our visit to La Maison Jakarta, we did not get to try those unique Indonesian flavours. However, we still got to experience what La Maison is all about by trying its signature and new creations menu.
Launched in March, Noisette is a 3 tier blissful combination of hazelnut sponge cake and cream, green apple confit and Alunga 41% chocolate cake. It is covered with green velvet chocolate that will surely catch your eyes. The texture feels amazing, basically a perfect combination between smooth and crispy.
Together with Noisette, La Maison had also launched two new macarons; Tropical Punchhighlighting passion fruit, and Chocolate Fudge with creamy 65% dark chocolate. What’s more, the store offers other wide selection of macarons and beautifully designed boxes to contain them.
If you like the traditional pineapple cookies we called nastar, you might want to try Sunshine. The main ingredients, pineapple jam and cheese, are accompanied with light vanilla sponge cake and pie crumbs. It tastes similar to nastar, but with much more sophistication.
As the best selling cake at the store, Romeo does not disappoint us. The chocolate cake has a yummy surprise for its admirers; a creamy avocado mousse! The mousse is made from scratch without artificial colouring and tastes heavenly. Definitely the kind of cake you will come back for again and again.
For us, a good cake should be appealing to all our senses; lovely appearance, sweet aroma, playful texture, delightful taste, and served in a pleasant ambiance. If you agree, don’t hesitate to visit La Maison!
