On the occasion of the International Women’s Day the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institue, Jakarta in collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic Indonesia and the Second Chance Foundation present a seminar entitled “Be Bold for Change.”
Every 8th of March, thousands of events occur to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women around the world. The seminar itself provides an important opportunity to discuss the advancement of women’s position globally, in Italy as well as in Indonesia, and particularly the condition of women as female inmates in the prisons in Indonesia.
The event is in presence of H.E. Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E Ambassador Vittorio Sandalli, Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Indonesia, and Evy Harjono Amir Syamsuddin, the President Second Chance Foundation.
During the event, Evi Syamsudin shared her experience visiting prisons around Jakarta, and how she was inspired by the optimism of the inmates. Even during the darkest time of their lives, they are still eager to learn.
There are also several performances by Grup Lapas Paledang Bogor, who learn to dance during their time in prison, and MegaMauro, a duo of Indonesian singer and Italian pianist.
