Dear Jakartans!
The sacred holy month of Ramadan has been tainted in Turkey. At least 36 dead and dozens injured after three suicide bombers attacked Istanbul’s Ataturk international airport on Tuesday evening, Reuters reports. Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has said the so-called Islamic State was behind the attack. Istanbul has been on a high security alert for months after three deadly attacks in the city this year blamed on Islamic State jihadis and the Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK). Our thoughts and prayer for anyone affected of this tragedy in the holy month of Ramadan, which shows that terrorism strikes with no regard for faith and values.
A week before Ied’l Fitri or Lebaran Day, flow of the ‘mudik’ or exodus starts to build up in several ports in Indonesia. It is predicted that the flow of home-bound travelers during the Ied’l Fitri festive period to the provinces, will peak on Saturday. To ease traffic congestion in the capital during the upcoming exodus, The Jakarta Transportation Agency will forbid the operation of trucks in the city five days prior to the Idul Fitri holiday, which will fall on July 6. It also needs to be noted that heavy rains are still expected to hit several regions, such as Central Java which will affect the flow of travels.
As we won’t be sending out a newsletter next week, we would like to wish all our Muslim readers a happy and peaceful Ied’l Fitri. For anyone staying in the city, enjoy the most peaceful and traffic-free Jakarta all year round, a rarity that only those ‘staying behind’ can enjoy. Check out ourRamadan promotions for staycations and dining options on the holiday. And for anyone traveling outside of Jakarta, we wish you a safe journey throughout.
We’re still giving away an exquisite lunch/dinner for two at Turkuaz/Warung Turki. Just answer this simple question for this week’s quiz:What is Warung Turki by Turkuaz‘reservation number? Submit your answer to turwar.quiz@gmail.com and see if you’re the lucky winner to last week’s quiz here!
