Belitung Beauty

This beautiful island on the east coast of Sumatera is a rare gem in its own respect. Its famed natural beauty was made famous by the local film Laskar Pelangi that has helped the island gained worldwide recognition. Controlled by the British until 1812, Belitung is famous as pepper and tin producer that also sparked a major conflict over who runs the island and was consequently controlled by the dutch after the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1842.
