A Dose of History at Le Meridien Jakarta

An adventure of delicious proportion! Le Meridien Jakarta invites its discerning culinary clientele (and history buffs!) on an adventure from Europe to Java, through the ancient spice route that has effectively open trade between the East and the West. Hosted by the hotel’s new executive chef, Chef Desmond Carneiro. The cuisines offered will be those authentic cuisines from areas that have been most affected by the progress of spice trade; Italy, Persia, India, and Indonesia.

Chef Desmond will show his culinary experience and knowledge on the richness of the region, just by looking at examples such as the use of pepper on Italian pasta, that has effectively introduced pepper to the western world. There will be four culinary destinations that will be showcased by the hotel and its executive chef, La Brasserie all-day dining and Al Nafoura Middle Eastern Restaurant, the infamous Rumah Kudus Penthouse with its authentic 19th century gebyok (Javanese wooden carving furniture) and last but not least the hotel’s Le Boutique Gourmande to finish off the journey with sweet treats and fantastic Coffee.

Each of the outlets that you will be visiting will also feature traditional drinks and local drinks, famous in the region, and you can choose between alcoholic and none). An interesting opportunity to catch up on your fifth-grade history lesson, the event is an approach to introduce guests to the wide variety and effects of the spice trade that once took over Asia and Europe by a storm. There will be various delicious dishes like Italian Pasta, Saffron chicken, Caladine curry, Lamb Biryani, Malia Chicken Tikka, Portuguese and French finger-food and loads more!
