Chateau d’Issan is one of the oldest winery in the Medoc as well as in all of Bordeaux region of France. In 1152, the wine produced by what we know of as Chateau d’Issan today was served for the royal wedding between Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henri II. The winery is now under the proprietorship of Emmanuel Cruse, and in February 2013, 50% of the estate was purchased by Jacky Lorenzetti, who also owns Château Pédesclaux in Pauillac & Chateau Lilian Ladouys in Saint-Estèphe.

The first wine presented was the Blasson D’Issan 2012, the second wine of the chateau with blueberry, licorice and a hint of rose petal aroma. It has a soft, medium-bodied texture with tobacco finish.  The second wine was the Chateau D’Issan 2012, a full bodied wine with incense and berry aroma that has such a silky texture and long stylish wine. This wine is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Merlot, and reached as high as 13% of alcohol.

For the finale, participants sampled the vintage 2012 wine from Château Lilian Ladouys of Saint-Estèphe, a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. Upon smelling, this wine develops a complex note of currant, incense and hazelnut. The palate is dense with good acidity and a long finish.
