Newly-launched Jakarta Heritage Walking Tour by Southeast Asia Heritage Tourism

There are lots of ways to experience Jakarta with its millions of nooks and crannies; one of it is through tracing the city’s long and fascinating history. Last Wednesday, January 18th, 2018, Southeast Asia Heritage (SEAH) Tourism launched a Heritage Walking Tour at Jakarta’s Kota Tua (Old Town). Collaborating with Southeast Asia Tourist Guide Association (SEATGA) and BeTourist Community, this tour’s purpose is to help locals and tourists to connect the stories of Jakarta as they discover the sights, tastes, smells, and sounds. Also, exchange local knowledge and inspire others to be active movers in tourism.

On its inaugural tour, a number of Jakarta’s expats and tourists joined and visited a number of key spots at Kota Tua area, guided by an English speaking tour guide. The tour starts with a stop at Historia Food and Bar to learn about Indonesia’s rich spices. Then, the tour continued by walking to several old buildings and learning about their history . The guests also got the chance to watch a short wayang (puppet) play about Ramayana, and even learned how to make a shadow puppet, enjoying a welcoming performance by local Pencak Silat group, and finish it with cooking class. jakarta heritage walking tour jakarta (4)
