Whether you’re the resolution making type of person or not, it sure is fun to think of places to visit next. We raise our hats to those that have made 2016 a year of new travels and destinations, but for those who need a little bit of inspirations, here are our picks!
1. Labengki Island, South Sulawesi
Pulau Labengki or Labengki Island is located at North Konawe, on the Lasolo Bay, District Lasolo, South East Sulawesi, Indonesia that has been named as the second Raja Ampat, for its unspoiled beautiful beaches and pristine underwater life. Labengki consists of two islands, the uninhabited Labengki Besar (big island), and Labengki Kecil or small Labengki, where about 1000 families of the native Bajo tribe lives.
Labengki Island is also a hot spot for the research, conservation, and rehabilitation of the giant Tridacna clam as it has the largest Tridacna (locally called kima) in the world.
2. Tanjung Puting, Central Borneo
Tanjung Puting National Park is a national park located in Central Kalimantan (Central Borneo). The park has the largest orangutan population in the world, and remains as one of the best conservation area too. It is the largest and most diverse protected example of extensive coastal tropical heath and peat swamp forest which used to cover much of southern Borneo. It is also home to the clouded leopards, civets, the Malaysian sun bears, as well hundred species of birds.
3. Galapagos Island
Situated in the Pacific Ocean some 1,000 km from the South American continent, these 19 islands and the surrounding marine reserve have been called a unique ‘living museum and showcase of evolution’. Thanks to the lack of natural predators, friendly wildlife such as playful sea lions and gigantic sea tortoises will let you get up close and personal with them! Best way to visit is by booking day trips to some of the islands from the main tourist hub of Puerto Ayora in Santa Cruz.
4. Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is South Africa’s most urbane, sophisticated city that offers endless things to do. Hike or take a tour up the fantastic Table Mountain for a spectacular view of the whole peninsula, shop in the quirky and vibrant markets, do a tour of the beautiful Kirstenboch Garden, lounge around their beaches (there’s one with penguins in it!!) or spend a whole day in the wineries.
