Every year, The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta organize several events to promote Italy’s gastronomic culture in the town, as part of The Week of Italian Cuisine in The World that takes place in over 100 countries across the world. For the whole week, enjoy seminars, food tasting, cooking class, and video screenings featuring the best of Italian Cuisine!
Cuisine is one of the essential components of Italy’s identity and culture, thus it is always exciting to learn more about it. Themes being discussed this year are quality, sustainability, culture, food safety and security, the right to food, education, identity, community, and biodiversity.
The first edition of The Italian Cuisine Week in The World in Jakarta, 21-27 November 2016, was inaugurated with a piano concert by Alessandro Martire and and artwork by prominent artist, Farhan Siki. Next, guests are able to learn more about Mediterranean Diet and Sustainable food through two seminars by experts in the fields.
There are also food tasting and showcase by several Italian restaurants in Jakarta, and several cooking classes for adults and kids with a celebrity Chef Gino Campagna in collaboration with MODENA and JS Luwansa Hotel. On the last day of the week, Chef Gino holds a talk show in Kompas TV. During the week Chef Massimo Sacco from Bali also presents “The art of preparing mozzarella” with diary product from Salento.
To highlight the cultural richness of Italian Cuisine, there are also screenings of films and documentary on food in collaboration with several universities in Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
