Incumbent Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama is officially an independent candidate for the 2017 Governor election. Through his supporter group ‘Teman Ahok’ has collected over than the minimal requirement of 523,213 registered Jakarta IDs, or 7,5% of the number of registered voters in the previous election, in less than a month.
Around 4,000 personnel were deployed to begin the demolition process of Luar Batang neighborhood in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Monday, as the city is planning to develop a new premium tourism spot integrated with the old Sunda Kelapa port area, with the local fish market, the historical Luar Batang Mosque and the nearby Maritime Museum being key attractions, the Jakarta Globe reports.
