A Middle Eastern Barbecue Galore at Al Nafoura Le Meridien Jakarta

In Jakarta, one of the best places around to get middle eastern cuisine is Al Nafoura, a Lebanese restaurant where you can find some of the most authentic middle eastern dishes. But did you know that every Saturday Night, the restaurant holds a Barbecue Night buffet that offers not only their signature dishes but a spread of barbecue items?

Barbecue, might not be synonymous with middle eastern cuisine as it is with American or other western cuisine. Although if we look at it closely, food preparation in the middle eastern involve a lot of charcoal, wood fire or other natural method of meat-charring. So what does a middle eastern barbecue entitles? let’s take a look!

In Al Nafoura’s buffet, the chefs lay out selection of fine cut beef, chicken, and also seafood; from king prawns, lobsters, to clams that have been seasoned and marinated with the chefs unique mix of middle eastern spices, such as cumin, coriander, and a lot of olive oil!

You can have it made to order, or enjoy the ones that are already cooked. With the barbecue, it is best you grab a few of the freshly cooked pita breads, refilled on steady flow by the chefs. There is also some sumac or poppy seed sprinkled bread if pitta bread isn’t your favorite.

With the barbecue, don’t forget to have a heaping portion of fresh vegetable and a side of spinach or meat sambousek, one type of traditional hot mezzeh that is a favourite to accompany meal or drinks.

The restaurant’s classics such as the Haruf Ouzi (braised lamb shank ouzi style served with oriental rice, assorted nuts and yoghurt sauce) accompanied with hot or cold Mezzeh (appetizer) such as Hommos, Tabouleh and Samboussek are also offered and can be enjoyed alongside your barbecued meat and seafood.

Last but not least, you surely don’t want to miss our Middle Eastern mouth-watering desserts including Turkish ice cream stall, baklava, or the chef’s special saffron pannacotta. Though my favourite would be the awwami or crisp donut balls soaked in sugar syrup. Such a simple yet amazing dessert!
