Plans for Ten-fold Increase in Parking Fee & Jakarta to Have Its Major Art Museum

Dear Jakartans!

The Jakarta Provincial Government has stated their plan to charge up to Rp. 50,000 per hour for off the street parking in the effort to discourage Jakartans from driving their cars and to opt for public transport. The Jakarta’s Transportation Agency, however, assured that this scheme would only be implemented after the city’s public transport gets to a sustainable level, which is hoped to be attained with the implementation of LRT and MRT. What do you think of this future plan by the Jakarta Government? Leave your comments below.

The first museum in Indonesia dedicated to international modern and contemporary art is scheduled to open in early 2017 in West Jakarta, New York Timesreports. The private institution will be called the Museum MACAN, for Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara. It is being built and financed by the Indonesian businessman and collector Haryanto Adikoesoemo and will be directed by Thomas J. Berghuis, the former curator of Chinese art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. The 43,000-square-foot museum, will occupy one floor of a building in a larger development project that will include offices, apartments, a hotel and a retail area.
