New year, new places to try! Here are some of the hottest places that we have got our eyes on this month:

1. St. Marc Cafe, Senayan City

St. Marc CafĂ© is a Japanese chain pastry store originated in Ginza Maronie Boulevard in Tokyo, Japan that has been taking the country by storm since 1998. From their flag ship store in Singapore in 2012, they have been expanding to several cities in Southeast Asia, including Jakarta from end of 2015. Try their signature CHOCOCRO (Chocolate Croissant) made from  Ghana and Ecuadorian chocolate, wrapped in a crispy, rich, buttery-flavoured croissant, perfect with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

2. Abura Soba Yamatoten, Grand Indonesia

A restaurant originating from Japan, Abura Sobafirst opened in Pondok Indah Kapuk and recently expanded its reach and opened its second outlet in Grand Indonesia Shopping Mall.  They specializes in dry or soup-less noodle that is heavier in the use of oil and vinegar (to be added by the customer upon consuming). The noodles are made daily in house and use no preservatives, with options of beef, chicken, or pork toppings.  Other popular side dishes are also available.

3. Caribou Coffee, Senopati

Finally, THE Caribou Coffee has arrived in Indonesia to get in the  is a Minnesota-based company that specializes in espresso beverages, roasters of their own blends of coffee, tea, sandwiches and bakery goods. Although this coffee shop has more than 600 outlets in the US and other countries, the Senopati store is their first in Southeast Asia. Wake up and smell the coffee, as early as 6.30 AM daily.

4. Ruang Seduh, Kemang

A coffee spot that offers specialty coffee from local farmers and roasters. From the people behind Pasar Santa’s popular coffee school  ABCD (A Bunch of Caffeine Dealers) Coffee. Here, the baristas are eager to help you learn about and to make coffee, so do ask and converse.

5. Food Container, Lebak Bulus

Pioneered by the Pasar Santa crowd, expect more of trendy and hipster-attracting food courts around town, such as this one. Food Container applies the popular ‘industrial-chic’ style concept of re-purposing cargo containers into (also) re-branded novelty food items such as ‘Cendol Float’, pipe-shaped breads, rice bowls, etc.
