Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta welcomes the arrival of the Year of The Dog on February 2018 with an array of special festive offerings and invites guests to ring in the new and prosperous year by enjoying a range of dining indulgences overflowing with the taste of the Orient.

To add more joy to the celebration, lion and dragon dancers will spread the festive spirit around the hotel on Chinese New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year’s Day.

at JIA, the hotel’s newest restaurant Executive Chef Christopher Chai will prepare Chinese set menu for the festivities including:  salmon Yee Sang, eight-treasure Pot, deep-fried tiger king prawn with golden pumpkin sauce, braised whole sea cucumber stuffed shrimp paste with dried oyster, steamed Marble goby, garoupa or cod fish, wok-fried glutinous rice with preserved meat, chilled lotus seed, aloe vera, red date and white fungus and finally the not to be missed steamed Nian Gao with peanut and sesame seed.

The set menus are available from 1 February to 15 February 2018 and for guests who prefer to enjoy the Chinese New Year in the comfort of their own homes, JIA presents an assortment of the festive delicacies for takeaway. The delectable takeaway options include the traditional favorites: Suckling Pig, Peking Duck and Salmon Yee Sang.

While in SATOO, a range of Chinese specialties and Yee Shang toss tradition into its buffet offerings for the Chinese New Year Eve’s dinner and Chinese New Year’s Day brunch.

at Lobby Lounge,a special Chinese themed high tea will be presented beautifully in tiers, inspired by JIA’s Chinese specialties recipe. Menus include: Roast Duck Baguette Barbeque Sauce, Open Sandwich of Hainan Chicken, Baked Scallop with Stuffed Shrimp Paste and Bean-Cured Miso Mayo, Pan-Fried Beef Tenderloin with Sliced Garlic BBQ Sauce, Matcha and Red Bean Cake and Sesame Balls. The Chinese New Year-themed afternoon tea will be available every day in February 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m.

1O1 TRAVEL SKETCH – Yogyakarta the City of Heritage We Walk, We See, We Draw

Jakarta, January 2018. 1O1 Travel Sketch Yogyakarta city edition supported by PHM Hospitality, Hotel, THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu and Sketchwalker was successfully held on 6 – 7 January 2018. The event was attended by more than 450 participants and invitations dedicated to promoting local destinations, preserving cultural heritage and historical heritage of Yogyakarta including its local culinary in the form of sketches and to encourage young people to be more creative in actualizing their creativity through sketching.

For this second edition, the event with themed “Yogyakarta the City of Heritage”, the location of Travel Sketch took a place at Pasar Kranggan, Klenteng Poncowinatan, Tugu Yogyakarta Monument, Vredeburg Fort, Titik Nol Yogyakarta, Pasar Beringharjo and Malioboro Street.

On the first day, the event is dedicated to participants who want to join the workshop, they are:

– Workshop Transportation sketch in watercolour with Agustinus MP

– Human Interest Workshop with Sheila Rooshwitha Putri

– Heritage Architecture Workshop with Artyan Trihandono

– Interior Café and Resto Sketching Workshop with Yandi Prayudhi

Then followed with travel sketch to the location of Tugu Monument Yogyakarta, Kranggan Market and Klenteng Poncowinatan. In the evening, we held a fun gathering or “obrolan santai” with the theme of Wedangan, raising the topic “Mlaku, Ndelok, Nggambar” ( walk, see, draw in Javanese language) at Hotel THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu with Butet Kartaredjasa, Djoko Pekik, Widiyatno, Irwan Sukendra, Suwarno Wisetrotomo, Nasirun, Motulz Anto, Artyan Trihandono and others.

On the second day the event was opened in Car Free Day Margoutomo area located in front of Hotel THE 1O1 Yogyakarta Tugu attended by Haryadi Suyuti – Mayor of Yogyakarta, Butet Kartaredjasa, Istidjab M. Danuagoro – Chairman of DPRD PHRI DIY, Yunianto Dwisutono – Head of Yogyakarta Tourism Office , Gun Nugroho Samawi – Director of People’s Sovereignty, Ananto Wibowo – Camat Jetis Yogyakarta, Budi Tirtawisata – CEO of Panorama Group and other invites.

In the event we also held live sketching in the body of the White Horse bus; the new activities for the first time in Indonesia. Then the participants going to Vredeburg Fort, Zero Point Yogyakarta, Beringharjo Market, and Malioboro Street. On this second day also held a workshop Sketching for Kids with Odie Astadi.

At the end of each event, a sketch auction was held which the fund raised will be donated to the the selected community as a form of CSR. The auction was also attended by Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Mangkubumi and Butet Kartaredjasa, members of KADIN Yogyakarta as well as some local community leaders. For the city of Yogyakarta donations collected at Rp 26,850,000 which will be given to the foundation that handles Autism children, namely SLB Bina Anggita School.

The series in several cities are organized to promote local tourism in Indonesia, especially where PHM has a hotel chain as well as to celebrate 45 years of Panorama Group – an integrated group of companies focused on Tourism, Transportation, Hospitality and related businesses.

Ambiente, Aryaduta Jakarta’s Italian restaurant, has received a massive face lift. Previously an old-fashioned wine and dine restaurant, the restaurant is returning with a brand new vigor. Off with the white tablecloth and in with the exposed bricks and rustic industrial elements on the table, ceilings, floors and overall look.

The modern-classic look is reminiscent of classic American-Italian bistro, and Chef Matteo Meacci’s tatted up and man bun is in sync with the restaurant’s new laid back and welcoming ambiance, bringing some refreshing element to the menu that otherwise still retains its classic Italian dish breakdown. Here you can find antipasti to share, consisting of salamis, pate, olives, and italian pickles, some imported from Italy and some home made by Matteo himself.

Chef Matteo Meacci’s prepares his classic pizza dough to gently slowly and steadily rise for 48 hours to let the yeast do all the work and let it develop a characteristic taste. He then bakes it in his stone pizza oven in matter of minutes to let the crust crisps and the inside stay fluffy.

He lists the classics the likes of margherita, quattro formaggi, salsicccia–topped with homemade pork sausage, or the diavola, and also the more experimental like the Focaccia Ripiena al Rendang, stuffed with mozarella cheese and the Indonesian beef rendang.

The pasta and risotto selection mixes up the use of freshly made pastas, homemade sauces, fresh seafood, and other simple and fresh ingredients. We tried the tagliolini neri al Granchio ; tagliolini tossed in fresh blue swimmer crab sauce. The al dente fresh black ink tagliolini bears witness to chef matteo’s expertise in fresh pasta making that marries very nicely with the crab meat and fresh tomato, basil, and chili sauce.

For desserts, the Bombe Alaska is popular for its striking look; a ball ice cream layers covered in meringue spikes, its massive size good to share with the whole table. Even more decadent is the chocolate and green tea lava cake that gives new live to the almost, just almost, forgotten art of warm cake.
