From 6 to 11 every Sunday, the main road of Sudirman and Thamrin is sterilized from any motorized vehicles to give way to thousands of people flock the usually busy and polluted street to walk, jog, cycle or any sports activity you can think of. Once you’ve tried it, you will wish it’ done every morning.  Lots of people bring their whole family, including their four legged family too!

2. Be picky with the tasty Indonesian food

lalapan

One thing that lots of expats complain about as they settle down in Jakarta, is how easy it is to gain weight and waist line! If you do eat Indonesian food daily, try to limit or even omit white rice, the main carbohydrate source for Indonesians that is very high in glycemic index. Second, avoid the street gorengan (fried food) at all cost! They’re very-very greasy and most of the time the source of the oil is very questionable. Third, load up with fresh vegetables. Tips: Sundanese restaurants usually provide ‘free refill’ lalapan or raw vegetables, paired with sambal.

3. Get organic juice & products to delivered to your door

Miyazaki Beef at AMUZ

Amuz’ chef, Gilles Marx will prepare an exceptional dishes specially for their patrons with  one of the best meat from Japan, Miyazaki Beef, 100% purebred Japanese Wagyu from the Miyachiku co-op. The name of the breed of cow that is used by Miyachiku is Kuroge Washu, also known as “Japanese Black”. It is one of four Wagyu breeds that exist today.

MiyazakiBeef

Miyazaki Prefecture is the 2nd largest producer of Japanese Black, and only the highest quality cattle from this region can be dubbed “Miyazakigyu.” In 2007, this class of cow boasted the “Champion Cow” of the “Wagyu Olympics,” and the fame is gradually gaining momentum. Its beautiful color is one of its attractive factors. In official sumo, it is custom to present the champion sumo wrestler with one Miyazaki cow.

Animals are fed a diet mostly of wheat and corn for an average of 900 days. This is about 8 times longer than most cattle that is consumed in our market. Each individual farmer has their own proprietary feed ratio. The idea of Wagyu being fed beer and massaged by Japanese women is a myth, however the farmers are allowed to feed their animals whatever they deem appropriate. In a bid to maintain the high standard of the Miyazaki Wagyu, the Japanese authority have restricted the supplies of the prestigious beef to authorized distributors. In Japan Miyazaki Wagyu is recognized for its cherry red colour, tender texture and great dense meat taste. The snowflake-liked fat is evenly distributed and produces a non-greasy flavour. It begins to dissolve at the temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, melting right in the mouth. At Rare Edibles, we carry only the finest, that is A4 Miyachiku Wagyu straight from Miyazaki. Reserve your seats to have a taste of this delicious meat now.

Dear Jakartans,

This Thursday, Muslims around the world will celebrate the “Eid al-Adha” day to commemorate the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son, as an act of submission to God’s command. In this day, affluent Muslims who can afford to sacrifice domestic animals such as cows and goats to be shared to their family, relatives, and most importantly to the poor and needy. While, for some, the festival’s rituals can seem a little barbaric it’s a chance to learn more about the fascinating and deep-rooted culture within our community.

After being postponed for more than 20 years with a series of obstacles and impediments, Jakarta’s long awaited Mass Rapid Transport is definitely in full swing as it entered the next crucial phase of underground drilling with President Joko Widodo launched the first tunnel drilling machine on Monday. The machine will be operated to build the track that will run from Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta. Following the Trade Ministry’s announcement to loosen up liquor regulation as part of the economic stimulus package issued by the government on Sept. 9, Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has said that his administration is ready to use existing city regulations on liquor distribution as soon as the Trade Ministry issues a new regulation allowing it to do so. Under the city bylaw, liquor with alcohol content of 5 percent and lower is categorized into Group A of alcoholic beverages that may be sold at minimarkets, supermarkets and hypermarkets. “There should be a bottle shop selling alcoholic drinks only. It’s common in other countries. Anyone can buy from the bottle shop as long as they are over 21 years old,” Ahok told reporters at City Hall in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
