Breakfast Galore at BSteak & Pancake

Let’s face it, everyday we look forward to one thing and one thing only, the weekends! And what better way to celebrate Saturdays and Sundays than to have the whole morning to an extended breakfast– or you may call it brunch if you like– with your family, or your chattiest friends.

What’s New Jakarta recently visited B’steak, a family restaurants that is popular for its steaks and other western favorites, has recently launched its Breakfast menu, special for weekends, from 8 to 11 am. That morning, at around 10 am the spacious first floor of the Gading Serpong B’steak already starts to fill up, both in its indoor and also the semi-outdoor at the back, close to the playground area.

B’steak doesn’t hold back with their breakfast selection;upon sitting, a special menu was presented to me, listing of the 12 breakfast items you can choose from, along with smoothies, juice, and drinks. I was pleasantly surprised with the price range that’s nothing north of Rp. 60,000.

Although I do notice that most of the items in the menu are on the savory side, and gravitates towards the use of healthier ingredients and cooking techniques, such as sourdough or rye instead of white bread, vegetable salad that’s omnipresent in all dishes, and the very minimum to no use of fried anything.

Firstly, there’s the classic egg Benedict, with perfectly poached eggs, sauteed spinach, mushroom, topped with classic hollandaise sauce on a couple of sourdough bread. There’s also the croque madame, the other side of the croque monsieur, with sourdough bread with bechamel sauce, cheddar cheese, smoked beef, and sunny side up eggs. Another favorite was the Mashed Avocado topped with grilled chicken and Feta Cheese crumbs served on a couple of rye sourdough bread. There’s also the classic BLT Sandwich, of bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. Although not to worry if you’re looking for halal food, all the ‘bacons’ in the restaurant are its beef version, making all the menu completely halal.

If salmon is your thing, I recommend the bagels with smoked salmon, with toasted poppy seed bagels, with cream cheese, onions. All very fulling yet nothing really weighs you down, thanks to careful portioning.

The Bagel with Smoked Salmon

Or if you feel like eating big, opt for the hearty American Big Breakfast, 2 eggs of your choice, rye sourdough, garlic sausage, sausage patty, beef bacon, sauteed mushroom and onions, and stuffed tomatoes, and citrus salad on the side.

On the sweeter side, or if you have some room in your tummy and want to consider it a dessert, B’steak also serves its legendary stacks of original pancakes, topped with butter and drizzled with maple syrup. Also another favorite in the menu is the vanilla brioche french toast, with grilled banana and maple syrup on the side. For the health conscious, the yoghurt granola fruit salad with fresh cut fruits and homemade granola is actually pretty awesome too.

President Jokowi Visited EU Institutions on his Official Europe Trip

Indonesian President Joko Widodo – who is currently on a five-day trip to Europe – visited the European Union (EU) institutions in Brussels yesterday (21/4).

jokowi_europe_visit
President Jokowi met the three EU Presidents: the European Parliament President Martin Schulz, the European Council President Donald Tusk and the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. The head of states have agreed to move towards reducing illegal logging and promoting trade in legally produced timber between the EU and Indonesia through the start of the first-ever Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) licensing scheme.

The announcement is based on the joint assessment that Indonesia is fully ready to implement the Indonesia-EU Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA), based on the inclusion of all relevant product groups in the scope of the Agreement. With this breakthrough the two Parties are now in a position to move swiftly towards a fully operational licencing system making Indonesia the first country to pass this final hurdle.

Benefiting from significant support from the European Commission and EU Member States, particularly the UK, the FLEGT VPA has strengthened forest governance by increasing transparency, accountability and stakeholder participation in decisions about forests. It has boosted legal trade, modernized and formalized Indonesia’s forest sector, and improved business practices, enabling many thousands of businesses to meet market demand for legal timber.

In 2002, just 20% of Indonesia’s timber was legal. Today, over 90% of Indonesia’s timber exports are from independently audited factories and forests. These audits cover more than 20 million hectares of forests and more than 1700 forest industries, an unprecedented level of scrutiny.

3-in-1 Suspension Extended & New Plans for Jakarta!

Dear Jakartans!

The Jakarta Police and Jakarta’s Department of Transportation has decided to extend the 3-in-1 temporary suspension that was initially to last for only 2 weeks, into two months until 14 May 2016. The extension is deemed necessary to better evaluate the impact of the 3-in-1 restriction.

In the same time, TransJakarta is welcoming more than 600 buses, with 200 allocated for the  Busway-Integrated Intercity Transport, or APTB, connecting the capital and its suburbs, Jakarta Globe reports. These new TransJakarta busses are also to support its growing network that will reach Bekasi, Depok, and Tangerang, starting as early as next week.

Although the MRT is yet to be ready at least until 2019, Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama has stated his intentions to eliminate the jalur lambat or the slow lane of Jalan Sudirman and completely bar motorcycles to pass the road, to give way to a bigger pedestrian way, so that people will be willing to walk more and use the MRT.
